Sentiero delle Espressioni (Path of Expressions): Art Trail on Lake Como
Hidden in the forests above Lake Como, the Sentiero delle Espressioni, also known as the Path of Expressions, is an unique hiking experiences on Lake Como.
This scenic trail combines nature, art and breathtaking mountain landscapes, transforming the forest into an open-air gallery.
Along the route, visitors encounter dozens of wooden sculptures carved by artists from around the world during the International Wood Sculpture Symposium held in Schignano. Faces, animals and imaginative figures emerge from tree trunks, making every step a new discovery.
Where is it?
The trail is located above Schignano, in the beautiful Valle Intelvi, approximately one hour’s drive from Como.
The most popular starting point is the small hamlet of Posa, where parking is available.
Not an easy hike
Before setting off, it’s important to know that this is not an easy walk. The route is not suitable for strollers and may be challenging for young children or inexperienced hikers. The trail includes several uphill and downhill sections, uneven ground, exposed roots and rocky terrain. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
We suggest bringing:
* hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes;
* comfortable outdoor clothing;
* plenty of water, especially in warmer weather.
How long does it take?
Allow 2 to 3 hours to complete the main trail, depending on how often you stop to admire the sculptures, take photographs or enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Many hikers also continue towards nearby viewpoints or mountain refuges to make the most of the day.
