Lake Como –  The new road “Variante della Tremezzina. The works  have begun on the “Variante Tremezzina” and the Regina will be closed from Colonno in both directions until March 29, 2022.

What is the “Variante della  Tremezzina”?

This Variant is the construction of a tunnel that it will be possible to avoid traveling a stretch of territory characterized by slowdowns and making easier the mobility. This project involves the construction of almost 10 kilometers of road. The towns that are interested in this intervention are: Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante, in the province of Como.  The end of the construction site is hoped for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

 How do you reach these countries?

There are 3 alternative routes:

A- Pass through the SS 340 from Menaggio to Porlezza, then go on the SP 13 to Centro Valle Intelvi and the SP 14 to Argegno. On the SP 14, in the San Fedele Intelvi – Porlezza section, there is a ban on trucks over 12 meters long and weighing more than 24 tons, as well as vehicles over 3.80 meters high.

B- Through Switzerland, taking the SS 340 from Menaggio to Porlezza, and then go on in the Swiss territory along the Autostrada 2 (E 35) to Lugano.

C- Through the SS 36, passing through Lecco. In this case it is possible to take the SS 340 northbound to the intersection with the SS 36 in the Municipality of Colico or, alternatively, to embark the cars from Cadenabbia or Menaggio to go to the other side of the lake up to Varenna, and then continue on the SP 72 or on the SS 36.
